am a forty-six year old artist/woman. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, youngest daughter of two exceptional artists. I prospered from many artistic opportunities, including growing up with a studio in my house.
In high school I participated in “The Community”, an alternative education program which taught me how to learn, and that the world is my classroom.
Along the way, I’ve been owner of an artwear business, cook, (coolest job was as vegetarian chef for the Princes of Dubai!) painter, photographer and more.
I lived abroad for 5 years, two in England, where I was trained to Teach English as a Foreign Language, and 3 in India, where I taught, lived and gave birth.
In 1985 I landed in Lexington, KY, where my then husband had a position with the university. In 1993 I left suburbia and marriage for a lifestyle in accordance with my values. I founded the Voluntary Simplicity Support Group 10 years ago and we met for 8 and a half years. From 1995-1999 I put myself through school and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Integrated Strategic Marketing. From 1999 until 2006 I worked for a small publishing company where I evolved from Graphic Designer to Senior Designer, Creative Director, Account Executive, Editor and finally General Manager of Sales and Marketing for a highly distributed regional resource called Health &Wellness Magazine.
Current interests include learning about and integrating into my everyday life the cosmovision of the Mexica and Maya. I extend these practices to more fully understand the basis of traditional healing methods in Latin America.
Current film projects in Mexico include La Tradicional Fiesta de Quince Años and La Curandera
In 1993 I discoverd my passion for documentary-making with my first documentary, “Rethinking Education: Getting to Know the Stony Point Story” about a progressive school in Va. that modeled exquisitely (and volunatrily) the ideal of the KERA paradigm. The parents, students, teachers and administrators were so happy in that building, that I felt I had to do something to show Kentuckians what KERA could look like. The film was well received, and used/viewed by parents, administrators and schoolboards across the state and beyond..
In 2000, I was asked to interview a woman about her experience being a patient. Thus began my second documentary, “Like Rembrandt Draperies: A Portrait of Cathy Tingle”, a life changing experience which asked me to look at my feelings about my death, illness, and dying. In the process I discovered my life calling: video interviewing people’s lives in an honoring way and then creating artful, poignant documentaries about them, given as gifts to their chosen loved ones.
For the last several years I have been involved with video oral history projects for museums, which I love.
In addition to honoring stories through video, I am passionate about Spiritual Clocks, which I create for the sister company to LifeWorks Videos: LifeWorks Clocks.
LifeWorks Video Portraits, LifeWorks Memorial Videos and documentaries are priced individually.
